About Season Stats
The Ranked leaderboard is a great place to consistently find the best players and to see how they adapt to the meta. The first Monday of every month, the season ends and a new one begins. While players are competing to reach the top, we are tracking their results and deck choices.
With this blog, we present a summary and a few insights of all the data that we collected during the last days of the season, with a focus on the decks that players used to obtain their final rank.
Stats Format Basics
These stats are based on the decks and card collections of the best players, the ones who finished among the top 1,000 players in Ranked.
Over this blog, we'll look at card stats with tables that use the following format:
- Usage refers to the share of players who used the card in their main deck. This stat is paired with a change %, which is the difference when compared to last season's usage.
- Average Rank is the mean of all the placements from players who used this card. The center point is 500, so if the value is below 500, it means the card is quite good.
- Have It Maxed (HIM) refers to the share of players who have that card at Level 15, which is the ideal level to compete in Ranked. The companion bar chart also shows the amount of players who have this card at Level 14 (in light blue).
- Usage/Maxed (U/M) shows the amount of players who use a card from those that have it maxed. Some cards can be harder to unlock and level up, so usage may not be a good indicator if it's being held down by other factors. It's also relevant to know that every season boosts a few cards, which allows players to use them without the need to level them up.
Win Rate VS Rank
Due to the nature of the ladder system, card win rates aren't truly useful to understand the strength of a card. We think a mix of the stats listed above can paint a more accurate picture of the state of each card.
Why does this happen? Ladder systems with score-based matchmaking aim to pair players with others of similar strength. If the amount of battles played is sufficient, the score of the player stabilises, leading to a win rate of ~50%.
Better players stabilise at higher scores than worse players, but in the long term, the winrate becomes similar. This causes this metric to be fairly irrelevant when compared to rank and usage.
Deck Meta
Top 10 Players
These were the main decks used by the Top 10 players of the season.
Best Players by Win Condition
This section is a list with the highest ranked player for each win condition, and all the decks are available below to copy into the game.
Some of the players run decks with dual win conditions, causing them to appear also multiple times in the leaderboard.

Deck Variety
Across the top 1K leaderboard, there are many kinds of players. Some regularly use the same deck, regardless of the meta (one-tricks), others like to create their own for each meta, and others run with the most popular decks of the leaderboard.
This chart compares deck variety with previous seasons. In the first category, you find decks that are unique in the leaderboard.
Moving to the right, each group represents a different threshold of deck popularity. In the last category, you can see the amount of players using decks with more than 20 users.
Usage of the most popular deck in recent seasons:
- Season 80: 45 uses
- Season 81: 81 uses
- Season 82: 47 uses
- Season 83: 33 uses (this season)
The deck meta keeps diversifying, as the most popular decks lose some weight. The 33 uses for the most popular deck sets a record low for 2026.

Tower Troops
- Tower Troop usage seems to have stabilised, with no significant changes compared to last season.
| Card Name | Usage | Rank | HIM | U/M |

Evolutions
Lumberjack had the biggest usage decrease among Evolutions.
Mortar stands out with the biggest increase, and scored the best average rank.
Royal Ghost has an abysmal fall of 29%.
Tesla becomes the top evolution of the season after doubling in usage. It was featured in the most popular deck of the season.
Lumberjack had the biggest usage increase, from 2% to 11%.
Witch had the best average rank (#387), although only 25 uses.
Minion Horde has an underwhelming first season, with just 3% usage; the average rank is not bad though (#415).
Top 3 evolutions:
- Mortar
- Valkyrie
- Cannon
| Card Name | Usage | Rank | HIM | U/M |

Champions & Heroes
Champions and Heroes compete to fit in the Hero Slot, and also compete with Evolutions for the Wild Slot.
Since this constraint was implemented, Champions have suffered very low usage. They are generally balanced as normal cards, meaning that they are outclassed by the stronger card forms.
Champions are always an interesting category because they exclude each other in decks. But players don't always have a Champion in their deck, so that's why "No Champion" is listed as well.
Heroes are much more popular than Champions, as usual.
Bowler becomes the most popular Hero by overtaking Balloon. However, Balloon hasn't fallen in usage since last season, and remains a top tier Hero.
Dark Prince has an average debut. 8% usage puts him in the top 10, but a bad average rank shows that he is overused for his current strength.
Barbarian Barrel has the biggest fall in usage after the nerf that reduced the Reroll Range from 4 to 3 tiles.
Golden Knight is the most used Champion, but has fairly bad results. Monk and Boss Bandit seem the strongest overall, but much less popular.

Evos VS Heroes
The Wild Slot provides a great environment to compare Evolutions, Heroes and Champions. Players can use this slot for any of the special forms, so their choice will show us what they prefer.
Double Evo remains the most popular option, although it had a few defectors.
Champions gain a significant usage share, as more players choose to include one in their deck. There's still only one player who runs double-Champion (Eriyi).

Full breakdown of options
This image shows all the available combinations of the current Special Slot system. The numbers in the tittles are abbreviations in which:
- E stands for Evolution
- H stands for Hero
- C stands for Champion
For example, "E2 -H1 - C0" means 2 Evolutions, 1 Hero and 0 Champions.

Special Forms VS Normal Cards
Comparing special forms to their normal cards is a great way to see how relevant each Hero and Evolution ability actually is.
If we also look at the usage of the normal card, we can get a better sense of their place in the meta, helping us answer:
- Is the normal card strong and usable by itself?
- Is the Evolution / Hero necessary and what makes it strong?
Several special forms take this to an extreme, where the normal card is completely unused and only the Evolution or Hero has usage. We can identify these cases as balance issues, where the base card was nerfed excessively to balance a strong ability, instead of addressing the ability itself.
It seems incompatible to have both the normal card and the evolution in a balanced state, at least as long as the evolution provides a relevant advantage. But having balance between different Evolutions and Heroes can partially solve this issue; the limited amount of special slots gives a comparative advantage to the base forms.
In this section we compare the usage of a base card with the usage of its special forms. For this we use a metric called LUR, in short:
- If LUR is around 0 the card usage is well balanced among base and special forms
- If LUR is above +1 or below -1, these is a significant imbalance
What is LUR?
This chart introduces a new stat: Log-based Usage Ratio (LUR). This is a value that directly compares the usage of special forms with the usage of it's normal form.
The basic way to read it is:
- A positive value means that the special forms are more popular
- A negative value means that the normal form is more popular
The logarithm is simply used to translate this ratio into a simpler number that's easier to read. E.g.:
- LUR = -2: Normal is used 100x more
- LUR = -1: Normal is used 10x more
- LUR = 0: Usage is balance
- LUR = 1: Special is used 10x more
- LUR = 2: Special is used 100x more
Cards that have been completely overshadowed by their special forms (LUR = 3):
- Wizard
- Archers
- Goblin Giant
- Executioner
- Witch
And a few that very close to the complete replacement were Goblins, Minion Horde, Valkyrie, Magic Archer, Battle Ram, Goblin Barrel, Skeleton Barrel and Mortar.
Most unappealing evolutions compared to their counterparts:
- Ice Spirit
- Dart Goblin
- Skeletons
| Card Name | Usage | Rank | HIM | U/M |
|---|
Spells
Besides the Hero Barbarian Barrel, the biggest decrease in usage was for Poison.
Normal Barbarian Barrel has a big increase in usage. This makes sense given that the nerf only affected the Hero form; players simply repurposed the Hero slot, but kept the Barbarian Barrel in their decks.
Arrows doubles in usage, and is now close to the other mid-sized spells like The Log, Tornado and Barbarian Barrel.
| Card Name | Usage | Rank | HIM | U/M |
|---|
Buildings
There were 42.7% of decks without any buildings at all, slightly more than last season (41.5%).
The top 4 most popular buildings are evolutions, and the first 3 have quite good average ranks; Goblin Cage not so much.
Evolved Mortar and Bomb Tower seem the strongest buildings overall.
| Card Name | Usage | Rank | HIM | U/M |
|---|
Win Conditions
Win Conditions are one of the best ways to look at archetype performance. Unlike support cards, which can fit in several archetypes, these are the core cards that define them.
Mortar and Miner are the highlights of the season; they both had significant usage increases and maintained very high average ranks.
Evolved Goblin Drill, Hero Giant and Lava Hound lost the most usage.
Top 3 Win Conditions:
- Miner
- Evolved Wall Breakers
- Evolved Mortar

Checks and Balances
Balance results
The start of last season introduced balance changes. Were the balances effective? The usage of nerfed cards should decrease, and buffed cards should become more popular.
- Most nerfs resulted in visible usage reductions, except for Evolved Royal Hogs.

The balances for next season were already announced, so we can take a look at their current stats. Did they deserve the buffs and nerfs?

This leaderboard sorts countries based on the amount of players in the Top 1,000.
The amount of players for each country is displayed in the "Count" column; to the right, you can see a ±value, which is the change compared to last season.
Signature Cards are cards which were disproportionately used in the region when compared to the global average. The 5 displayed cards are sorted, meaning that the first card is the Top 1 signature card. Usually signature cards hint towards a specific archetype that is unusually popular in the country.
Calculating Signature Cards
The concept mentioned above translates in a simple way to math. The goal is to calculate the difference bewteen general usage and local usage (ΔUR).
- Card Use Rate (CUR): average usage of a card in the top 1K
- Local Card Use Rate (LCUR): average usage of a card among the top 1K players of a country
Therefore, a high ΔUR means that a card is used more locally; we simply sort all cards by ΔUR in descending order, and pick the first 5 as Signature Cards.
Note that the differences we are measuring are absolute. This means that low usage cards are less likely to appear as Signature Cards. For example, suppose X-Bow has 1% usage, and the United States has 10% usage of X-Bow; we could consider that X-Bow is 10x more popular in this region, but we just take into account the +9% ΔUR.
High usage cards tend to have higher ΔUR due to their higher variance. We consider that an advantage of this method, as high usage cards are more relevant for meta highlights.
